Our hearty congratulations to University of South Florida mechanical engineering professor Autar Kaw for being picked as 2012 U.S. Professor of the Year. The award is the nation’s highest honor for undergraduate teaching to a USF professor of 25 years.

And as the year comes to an end, our accounting columnist Kamlesh Patel, CPA, suggests some moves to reduce your 2012 federal income tax bill. Among his recommendations are planning for the AMT, family gifts, education incentives and charitable contributions. On a similar note, financial advisor Seema Ramroop has drawn up an annual financial review checklist to help you focus on important matters.
