“Raees” Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui; directed by Rahul Dholakia; music by Ram Sampath.

Shah Rukh Khan fans are surely looking forward to his return to dark character roots as Raees Aslam. Directed by National Award winner Rahul Dholakia (“Parzania”), this crime thriller is reportedly inspired by the life of bootlegger Adbul Latif, Mafia don in the 1980s and has been mired in controversy. Pakistani actress Mahira Khan makes her Hindi film debut as his love interest. The makers say it’s a fictitious story of a man who builds an empire from bootlegging liquor in the state of Gujarat, a state that still follows prohibition. The film shows his relationships and rise to power. Raees is a gangster entrepreneur with a brutal business mind and a giving heart. Both loved and feared, he becomes the most powerful man in the state. Expect a stellar performance from Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays ACP Ghulam Patel, the cop determined to bring Raees down. The item song “Laila” featuring Sunny Leone is sure to be a hit only because the original is so iconic.
