DO’S, DON’TS FOR SUMMER WEAR!

It’s hot! As we’re enjoying the heated days of summer, we are also trying to keep cool and still enjoy our Indian wear. Here are some do’s and don’ts to help embellish your look without feeling weighed down.

DO WEAR COTTON/LINEN ENSEMBLES

With the higher temperatures, wearing heavier chiffons and georgettes will feel sticky especially with sequin and stonework layered on. Then add the bottom to your long kameez and a dupatta; it will all feel too much sometimes!

Wearing cotton or linen suits with embroidery is the alternative, even long sleeve outfits will have you feeling lighter in these fabrics! A red palazzo suit in cotton with all-over white chickenkari work can look oh-so-pretty!

DO STILL WEAR JEWELRY

Jewelry doesn’t have to equal discomfort. A light gold choker and studs are the combo for this season, it’s not overbearing at all. Add a large cocktail ring and you’re good to go!

Bangles are in extremes but direct in instruction. Loads of solid or metallic colored bangles on each wrist is just right. But so is one thick kada on each wrist too. With lighter outfits, stick with more bangles. Heavier looks are commanding much less.

DO WEAR BINDIS

Many have disregarded the bindi completely as a form of adornment. They’re finally making a major comeback this season and it’s about time!

Simple, cute round ones are most popular, oval shapes following a close second. They are truly the icing on our final looks. Longer bindis are taking a backseat, but store these for the fall/winter seasons. They’ll make a comeback!

DON’T WEAR ALL DARK

Yes, wearing darker hues will make you feel warmer, it’s not a myth! Imagine dressing in all black or navy blue, it’ll surely feel darker first in the mind, then to the body!

Wear whites, nudes and pastel shades such as pale yellow, baby blue or baby pink to feel cooler and lighter. I’ve been seeing white on white work, again in chicken embroideries. They look ethereal combined with minimal jewelry.

DON’T OVER CAKE UP (MAKEUP)

Makeup is an embellishment for your face, not a shield. The hotter temperatures remind us we don’t need a mall full of primer, foundation, powder, concealer, highlighter, etc., for even a fancier occasion.

Swipe on some eyeliner and mascara (waterproof versions challenge humidity and sweat – bring it!). Add some tinted lip balm or gloss and some blush. Ready, set, go!

DON’T NEGLECT FACE & SKIN CARE

Late summer nights and summer in general have us feeling more relaxed. But it’s no excuse to skimp on your beauty regimen.

Keep your face and skin care on top of your to-do list. Your skin will thank you by looking radiant and dewy – you’ll glow!

Summer’s such a beautiful reason to spend more time with our family and friends. School’s out, vacations are booked and everyone is just easy breezy. Enjoy it all and enjoy it together. And as always, remember to ‘gro’ with style!
