GIFT TIPS FOR MOTHER’S DAY

Kiran Bahl

By KIRAN BAHL

Attention readers: Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10! Which means all the grandmothers, mothers and mothers-to-be in your life need to be given a gift to be made feel even more special than usual. It's pretty much tradition, and a good one at that!

Here are some spring savvy tips to find the perfect fashion gift for any mom out there. Including flowers and chocolate too will earn you extra happy points!

FOR THE MOTHER WHO HAS EVERYTHING

This category includes the very few who have it all, and truly desire no gift. Men, you may think we mean it when we answer your gift questions with assurances of needing nothing more than the family's love, but that's just a test on our part. We mostly like the idea of gifts!

But, for the ones who you know really have it all and want no more, the answer lies in the simpler things. A beautiful pair of jhumke/earrings or a handpicked kurti/tunic from you would mean so much. Keep thoughtful and remember the special mom's favorite stone or color. If your mom for example loves red, find her red and silver jhumke. If bright prints are your wife's favorite thing to wear, a floral or watercolor marked kurti is fabulous. It's the details they'll cherish the most!

FOR THE YOUNG, TRENDY MOTHER

This one's easy! Find a print or sequin sari, lengha or churidaar. Colors trending right now are pastels such as baby blue, peach, bubble gum pink and lilac. Avoid the jewelry path. That's the usual go-to gift anyhow, be unique this time around. Picking out a suit for the beautiful woman will have her wearing it to the next event in no time. We ladies love showing off our gifts from family more than anything!

FOR THE TRADITIONAL MOTHER

A silk sari, a gold and stone jewelry set, silver anklets, tikkas ... There are so many stunning options for the true Indian mother. Colors in the tradition silk sari palette on runways include royal blue, emerald green, and ruby red. Dripping with rich heritage, these are the perfect gift.

Jewelry is high on gold this season. But unlike the deep, dark hues of silk, their stones are lightening up into breathtaking shades of mint green, pale yellow and even silvery gray. Gorgeous!

Mother's Day is indeed a day to cherish all the mothers in your life. Above all the clothes, jewelry, flowers and chocolate, moms really just want the family's time. A breakfast in bed, a nice dinner home or out, a picnic lunch with those near and dear – a loving day can begin with only just the loves of our lives. Enjoy this day and every day, and as always, remember to 'gro with style'
