NOVEMBER 2011
Khaas Baat : A Publication for Indian Americans in Florida

Editor's Note

By NITISH S. RELE and SHEPHALI J. RELE

You don’t want to miss this year’s India Festival Nov. 12 in Tampa. As our page one story indicates, the daylong event will be at a new location – Florida State Fairgrounds. And as a festival first, singer Kavita Krishnamurty will present a musical concert. Within a week later, Tampa will host the seventh annual Asian American Convenience Store Owners Association convention.

Diwali may be officially over but some communities such as Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville (both on Nov. 19) and a few others are still holding celebrations for the Festival of Lights. We have details of all the activities on page 4.

This month, we profile an old acquaintance and a talented musician Nandkishor Muley. He has been teaching classical vocal arts, tabla, kathak and of course santoor for several years in the Central Florida area (story, page 24).

Community organizers, remember to inform us about events planned in your town. We also accept letters to the editor. Remember, Khaas Baat is the ONE AND ONLY Sunshine State publication that gathers and provides comprehensive coverage of happenings in your Florida Indian community. We welcome your suggestions and feedback at editor@khaasbaat.com
