Ittefaq” Starring Sonakshi Sinha, Sidharth Malhotra, Akshaye Khanna; directed by Abhay Chopra; music by Tanishk Bagchi.

Yash Chopra’s 1969 suspense thriller starring Rajesh Khanna and Nanda gets a reboot. The plot is a double murder, there are two witnesses and both are prime suspects with a different story. Sidharth Malhotra plays acclaimed writer Vikram Sethi, a suspect being questioned after the murders of his wife Catherine and lawyer Shekhar Sinha. He pleads innocence and shares his account of events that night. Sonakshi Sinha stars as Maya Sinha, the dead man’s wife, the other suspect in the double murder case. Maya insists she’s a victim. Her demeanor in the two points of view of each suspect is vastly different. Akshaye Khanna plays the investigating officer, Inspector Dev, trying to find the truth under this maze of lies. IttefaqDev is torn between each suspect’s stories. Both seem plausible but there is only one truth as to what happened that night, which he must somehow uncover. The one song in the film is a redo of “Raat baaki” from “Namak Halal,” featured here as “Ittefaq se.”

Tumhari SuluTumhari Sulu” Starring Vidya Balan, Manav Kaul, Neha Dhupia, Abhishek Sharma; directed by Suresh Triveni; music by Guru Randhawa, Rajat Nagpal, Tanishk Bagchi, Amarya Rahut.

This comedy features one of our favorites, the versatile and talented Vidya Balan. She plays a simple, carefree Mumbai housewife, Sulochana, fondly known as Sulu. Her family includes husband, Ashok, played by Manav Kaul, a sales manager in a company that sells uniforms and their 11-year-old son, Pranav. Sulu entertains herself during the day listening to her favorite radio station and entering every imaginable contest. She has an amusing way of sailing through everyday life with an outspoken attitude. After winning a pressure cooker in a radio contest one day, a trip to the radio station unexpectedly changes her life. She lands a job as an RJ (radio jockey), Neha Dhupia plays her boss. Tumhari SuluSulu’s responsibility is anchoring the night show, chatting with eccentrics and lonely souls. Meanwhile, the husband deals with work woes and a clever child is up to something in school in this slice of life entertainer. The makers promise humor, music and quirk that will warm your heart. That’s a tall order we think Vidya Balan can fill. The famous “Hawa Hawai” song gets a redo that reportedly Sridevi has approved.
