DRESS UP, EAT HEARTY AND PARTY DURING EID

Kiran Bahl

By KIRAN BAHL

Greetings and Eid Mubarak to our loyal readers! Holiday season is in full swing, especially for those everywhere celebrating the beautiful occasion of Eid. From small get-togethers and dinner gatherings to huge banquet parties and melas, it’s time for the whole family to dress up, eat hearty and party!

LADIES

Indian and Pakistani designers everywhere are celebrating the splendor of Eid with updated clothing designs in so many new concepts. The best part is all outfits, being from India or Pakistan, have melded into a similar pattern play. Churidaars and trouser suits are similar in their long, flowing kameezes, and fresh textures and color combinations.

Animal prints are still in! Instead of just leopard and cheetah prints, though, new twists include snakeskin and crocodile designs. These reptile prints mixed with neutrals such as black or gray leave lots of room to accessorize with splashes of color.

Lace, too, is becoming quite the popular embellishment. From full-on kameezes in this dainty material to just a little bit of it here and there, lace in neutrals with color contrast on the bottom and dupatta provides a refreshing style.

Color combinations consist of lots of neutrals mixed together such as black and gray or beige and cream. But mixing neutrals with pastels will transform your look completely – it’s attention-grabbing. Black with baby pink or beige with sky blue are just beautiful.

Think wild! Besides the animal prints, dainty looks and light color palettes, try bright all over. Cheetah prints in purple and pink, or leopard looks in orange and yellow are amazing. Just be sure to finish the look with a neutral. For example, a white background with the purple and pink cheetah motif along with a solid bottom and dupatta, will create a sense of balance. It’s the same with the orange and yellow leopard design. Put it on a black background, and you have an elegant design rather than a hot neon mess!

MEN

Gentlemen, I can’t wait to see you dressed up for Eid in Indian and Pakistani styles this year, especially because the new styles and colors are so gorgeous.

Think color this season. Gone are the days of sticking with neutral shades like cream, beige and black. New hues of orange, blue, purple, green, and yes, even pink are back in town. What is the most striking feature this season on runways and boutiques? Black embroidery and black sequin/bead versions! The standard gold and silver palettes are still popular, but black work particularly set stark with bright contrast colors are very much in. It’s elegant, rich-looking and super now.

On this Eid, may the choicest blessings of Allah fill your life with peace and joy. And, of course, fabulous fashion! Enjoy this holiday season with your loved ones, family and friends. And, as always, remember to ‘gro with style’!
