MEDICAL MISSION TO HONDURAS FROM TAMPA PROVIDES VALUABLE FIELD EXPERIENCE TO FUTURE DOCTORS
A group of 20 high school and medical students and nine physicians from the Tampa Bay area made a Medical Mission trip to La Ceiba, Honduras to gain firsthand experience as well as serve the needy and poor.
This trip was a collective effort by Honduras Regional Hospital Atlantida and India Cultural Center, Tampa, Mukund Bhalani and Hitesh Adhia. During the Dec. 27-30 mission, the students earned field experience in internal medicine, neurology, dermatology and other medical fields. Two students were assigned to each physician and rotated every hour between them. More than 500 patients were treated during the mission.
“I had a great experience meeting the patients in Honduras and observing their treatments by Dr. Dipak Shah and Dr. Siddharth Shah,” said Sonali Shaw, a high school student.
Participant Rina Bhalani said, “It was a wonderful opportunity because we had the chance to interact with patients and become familiar with different fields of medicine.”
Students also participated in the medical-related workshops by Dr. Dipak Shah, Dr. Rajan Naik, Dr. Ashwin Mehta and Dr. Vasiloudes Money, among other physicians.
