RangoonRangoon” Starring Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan; directed by Vishal Bhardwaj; music by Vishal Bhardwaj.

Expectations are high for this period drama from the acclaimed director of “Maqbool,” “Omkara” and “Haider.” Set in the 1940s during India’s struggle for independence, the gifted Kangana Ranaut is featured as Julia, an action movie star. Saif Ali Khan plays a rich and possessive filmmaker who loves her. Julia is sent to entertain the Indian army stationed in Burma where she meets Nawab Malik, a soldier played by Shahid Kapoor. A tumultuous love story follows, full of deceit in the backdrop of war. While there are historical references, the director has said it’s a work of fiction and not based on any actress of that era. The trailer highlights epic worthy stunning visuals. All three leads have previously proved their acting talent and under Bhardwaj’s direction their efforts are sure to shine. The chartbusting soundtrack is also composed by Bhardwaj, with lyrics by Gulzar. RangoonHomage is paid to the classic song “Mere piya gaye Rangoon,” with “Mere piya gaye England,” sung by the inimitable Rekha Bhardwaj.
