MAY 2014
Khaas Baat : A Publication for Indian Americans in Florida

Editor's Note

Tampa Bay finally got it done! And in a spectacular way, we must say. Though we don’t have official numbers yet, the 15th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards drew quite a bit of attention in the local media. The large crowds at different events enjoyed the festivities with no major incident according to local law enforcement. We have some of the highlights of the four-day activities in this issue.

However, even with IIFA done, activities continue in Florida as you can see from our stories on page one as well as in our Events listing. We urge readers to take advantage of the 16th annual Community Health Fair May 17 at the Hindu Temple of Florida community hall in Tampa. There are usually 400 attendees and 50-plus participating physicians at the free event. Folks in South Florida can look forward to a free talk “You Can Change Your Life” by spiritual leader Dada J.P. Vaswani on May 18. Central Florida residents can register for the first national convention of Jeeyar Educational Trust (JET) May 23-25 in Orlando.

For late-breaking announcements, join us on facebook at Also, follow us on Twitter @khaasbaat.

Community organizers, remember to drop us an e-mail about future events in your town. Khaas Baat is proud to be the ONE AND ONLY Sunshine State publication to offer comprehensive coverage of happenings in your Florida Indian community.
