Bhoothnath Returns“Bhoothnath ReturnsStarring Amitabh Bachchan, Parth Bhalerao, Boman Irani, Anurag Kashyap, Usha Jadhav, Sanjay Mishra; directed by Nitesh Tiwari; music by Meet Bros Anjjan, Palash Muchhal.

A sequel to “Bhoothnath,” from 2008, the story moves forward with the ghost, played by Amitabh Bachchan, returning to ‘Bhoot World’ where he faces taunts and criticism from the other ghosts. Because he let a kid on Earth bully him, Bhoothnath has disgraced his ghost community. Hoping to redeem himself, he goes back to Earth to scare a bunch of kids. Bhoothnath's search for potential victims brings him to a chaotic urban locality, where a fearless street-kid, Akhrot, played by Parth Bhalerao, is the only person who can see him. Together, they agree to help each other and their friendship gets them into a much larger cause than they had imagined. They find themselves battling a powerful and corrupt politician, Bhau, played by Boman Irani. The elections are near and Bhau's victory is all but certain, or is it? Bhoothnath finds a way to stand against him in the elections. Expect laughter in the events that follow as a ghost overcomes fear and fights against injustice. Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor are featured in special appearances and the songs are quickly climbing the charts. From the director of the National Award winning children’s film “Chillar Party,” the makers say “Bhoothnath Returns” is an entertaining tale of good against evil.

Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor meet as
students in “2 States.”

Gulaab GangThis film is based on the book 2 States-The Story of My Marriage by Chetan Bhagat, which was inspired by the author’s life story. Bhagat’s novels are a fun read and translate well on screen. Arjun Kapoor plays Krish Malhotra, a Punjabi boy studying at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad where he meets fellow student Ananya Swaminathan, played by Alia Bhatt. Over the course of time, they fall in love and decide on marriage. That’s when the problems slowly start arising. Krish and Ananya have drastically different backgrounds coming from different states of the country. Krish is a Punjabi boy from Delhi, while Ananya hails from a Tamil Brahmin family from Chennai. The couple has agreed to marry only with the approval of their respective parents. You can imagine the cultural clashes that ensue when their parents meet each other. The discord creates many obstacles, which Krish and Ananya must overcome if they wish to live happily ever after. It’s an entertaining look on the various issues that plague inter-community marriages in India. Having read the book, the casting of Amrita Singh as the Punjabi mother with Ronit Roy as her stubborn husband seems perfect. Revathy, the award-winning actor and director, stars as Ananya’s mother.
