JYOTSNA PATELJyotsna Patel has been nominated for induction into the Cricket Hall of Fame. The Tampa resident will receive the honor Oct. 2 in Fort Lauderdale. Each year, the Cricket Hall of Fame honors individuals, both local and international, for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the game by inducting them into the prestigious institution.

The Cricket Hall of Fame, the first of its kind in the world, was established in 1981. Since its inception, several former cricket stars, including Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Vivian Richards, Dr. Michael Holding, Sunil Gavaskar and Hanif Mohammad have been inducted.

Patel is an avid cricket enthusiast passionate about promoting cricket among girls and women in the USA. She has crafted and nurtured her love of cricket for more than three decades representing several first-class India teams. Her experience as a cricketer includes playing at the national level with India women’s national cricket team from 1974-1978 and representing India against Australia, New Zealand and the West Indies. The right-handed batswoman also captained the Madhya Pradesh state and Central Zone women’s cricket teams during that period.

The children and women’s cricket coach for the Tampa Cricket League, she is also the vice-captain and player for the Tampa Sunrisers women’s cricket team.

Among her many achievements include lifetime memberships of Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) in Indore and the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Professionally, she is a Senior Associate at World Financial Group in Tampa since 2014.
